For a long time...Very true about majority/minority. For a long time in many countries the oppressor was way out numbers but wielded a lot of power anyway. Perhaps I am too broad handed in my use of those terms, though at least for discussion involving thing USA they tend to hold true.

I agree that aid when managed poorly or done with the wrong motives can lead to dependence and perpetuate a power imbalance. I am not sure that I would classify it as reverse discrimination though. Obviously, I disagree with your thirds statement (see previous posts about "reverse discrimination"). But I definitely like your ideas about doing work that empowers underprivileged folk for long term and self-sustainable change. A thought f...Forwarded comment from cuddlymogwai...
A thought for today.

In some countries disadvantaged groups are minority races. In other places they may be majorities. In any case:

Giving monetary handouts to disadvantaged groups is reverse discrimination, and fosters dependence.

Giving jobs, study opportunities, and tax breaks preferentially to disadvantaged groups is also reverse discrimination.

Community development and educational outreach targeted at those groups, on the other hand, is not reverse discrimination.... I will forward you a cool email.BTSF:https://www.blogger.com/profile/02553697351488297764noreply@blogger.com
